The University of Arizona campus is set to receive an energy boost from a newly installed solar canopy

The University of Arizona (UA) is utilizing a partnership with Tucson Electric and Power (TEP) to build a 20-foot solar canopy near the Student Success District at 4th and Highland.

  • TEP is providing the panels, while UA will be handling the construction.
  • The new bi-facial panels are expected to generate 29 kilowatts of power, enough to power three or four homes, and have a 25-30% higher energy collection rate than previous models.
  • Faculty from the College of Agriculture is interested in the potential applications for agro-voltaics.
  • The solar canopy should be ready by August 2023.
