VP Harris discussed the need for better access to renewable energy resources in the US

Vice President Kamala Harris, two cabinet secretaries, and Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs celebrated the start of construction of a new power transmission line between Arizona and California.

  • The Ten West Link will allow for the deployment of more renewable energy in order to address climate change.
  • The 125-mile power line will connect electrical substations from Tonopah, AZ to Blythe, CA.
  • It is hoped that this long-distance power line will encourage investors to put money into large solar fields in Arizona's desert to produce energy for Phoenix and Southern California.
  • By expanding the grid, more renewable resources can be used when natural sources such as sun or wind are not available, helping a renewable-heavy grid cope with different weather patterns.
  • President Biden has set a goal of cutting emissions in half by 2030 and allocated $3 billion towards new transmission lines;California is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2045.
