Why it matters
Apache County officials, including the Board of Supervisors and Planning & Zoning Commission, are reviewing the county’s land use code (aka - ordinance) that guides the development of renewable energy like solar, wind, and storage projects.
The Facts
Coal & gas plants require 140x more water than solar farms.
Solar is the cheapest energy source and can be paired with farming and grazing.
Sun & wind are free fuel sources, so utilities can’t raise rates based on rising costs.
A good ordinance means:
- More jobs and tax revenue for local communities
- A more reliable, independent and balanced energy system
- Cleaner air and water for future generations
- A way to conserve our water resources
But new rules could block clean energy development and limit landowner rights and independence, taking away local energy choices.
