Meyer Burger in discussions with Sunrun and Sunnova about U.S. solar cell manufacturing

Meyer Burger is considering pathways to manufacture solar cells in the United States, following guidance regarding domestic content requirements.

  • Production of 2 GW per year of solar cells with the Goodyear, Arizona facility has been planned at current German factory locations Thalheim and Bitterfeld-Wolfen.
  • Manufacturing capacity could reach 15 GW annually. • Department of Energy (DOE) may potentially fund construction of a solar cell facility.
  • 800,000 solar cells are produced daily for 6,000 solar modules; 1.4 GW/year expansion will increase output to 10,000 modules per day.
  • Meyer Burger is shifting its production completely to glass glass solar modules, which have been laboratory tested to show “zero degradation”.
