The Navajo Nation’s Resources and Development Committee has approved a major clean energy lease for Painted Desert Power, LLC to build a 750-megawatt solar and battery storage project in Coconino County. Co-developed by Navajo Power and AES, the project represents the largest private clean energy lease in Navajo Nation history and a milestone toward energy independence, economic opportunity, and land restoration for communities long impacted by historic development barriers. The nearly 4,500 acre development was met with strong local chapter and grazing permittee support further underscoring the Nation’s readiness to lead in responsible renewable energy investment.
