Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) candidates Jonathon Hill, Clara Pratte, and incumbent Kevin Thompson debated rising utility bills, rate case oversight, grid reliability, and consumer input ahead of the November 3rd election. Hill and Pratte argued that recent rate increases have hurt households and called for stronger affordability protections for ratepayers and accountability for utilities making record profits year after year while charging customers more.
Thompson said regulators must ensure utilities recover legitimate costs while trimming waste and protecting grid stability. Voters may choose up to two candidates for the five-member commission, which regulates all Arizona monopoly utilities and decide how much they can charge ratepayers for water, power, and gas.
