Innovation is Powered in Pinal

Located between the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas, Pinal County covers approximately 5,400 square miles and is one of Arizona's fastest-growing counties, with a population of around 470,000.

Key Facts

Water

Pinal County relies heavily on groundwater (~80%), with surface water supplied primarily through Central Arizona Project (CAP) canal deliveries and the Gila River. Agriculture, historically the county's dominant industry, accounts for the largest share of water consumption, though rapid residential growth is reshaping demand patterns. The county sits within an Active Management Area (AMA) and faces long-term groundwater depletion pressure as CAP supplies tighten. (source)

Energy

Pinal County is home to the Coolidge Generating Station, a natural gas peaker plant, and is emerging as a significant solar development corridor due to its flat terrain, high irradiance, and proximity to major transmission lines connecting Phoenix to Tucson. The county averages over 300 days of sunshine per year, and several large-scale solar and battery storage projects have been sited or are in development.

Economy

The largest employers in Pinal County are health care, retail trade, and public administration, accounting for over 45% of jobs. Manufacturing and construction are the next largest sectors, driven by a growing industrial base including semiconductor-adjacent supply chain facilities, together providing roughly 20% of local employment.
