Arizona’s two largest electric utilities, APS and SRP, set all time demand records between 5 and 6 pm on July 24 as extreme heat drove heavy air conditioning use. APS reached 9,053 megawatts, about 5% above its 2025 peak, while SRP reached 9,072 megawatts and also exceeded its prior record on July 23 and 25.
The demand surge coincided with an extreme-heat warning and forecasts of 115–118°F, well above the typical 106°F for this period. APS said it has enough generation and reserves to serve customers, while the continuing records also reflect Arizona’s population, business, and economic growth.
